5 Tips for A Great Tarot Reading

You’ve booked your first tarot reading - yay! I can’t wait to work with you. While you wait, I thought it might be helpful to share some tips on how you can make the most of the time we have together to make sure you get the best tarot experience, ever. (Note that this are mostly for live readings, but all is helpful when submitting a request for a written reading as well - lots of context helps!)

  1. Settle on a question.

The best readings are focused on a single issue at hand: we don’t really have time to dive into multiple, vastly different areas of your life that you have questions about. The best readings really go deep into a single topic, and examine all possible areas surrounding it. So come prepared with a question you’d like to explore - this is something I can’t really do for you!

  2. Participate.

The worst readings are when people sit there, listening and expecting information without giving me anything. This is YOUR reading: I’m not fishing for information, but I want to make sure that things are resonating or things make sense. And if they don’t, we can explore the alternatives or figure out what the cards are trying to communicate, together. I’m not a mind reader and I want you to be happy with our time together!

  3. Clarify and Validate.

In addition to participating, don’t be afraid to clarify or validate things that I say to you. You will not hurt my feelings, I promise. We are a team exploring different aspects of your question, and what you say will help guide the reading in the direction you want it to go. That’s why a bit of prep work (the question you want answered) and participating all goes a long way.

  4. Bring a pen and notebook.

For live readings, some things won’t click right away. Write them down anyway. Sometimes people or situations pop up in readings that you haven’t encountered yet - but having notes to reference down the road can be helpful. Don’t count on your memory to help you remember when you are processing all of the information at the same time. I’m also happy to record the reading and provide you with the file afterwards.

  5. Keep an open mind.

If you are coming to the tarot, chances are you are already open to what the cards have to say. Generally, people reach a place of vulnerability when the come see me, they feel stuck, or don’t know which way to go. I consider it a great honor that you have trusted me to help you solve your problem, and love helping you do so. It’s my ultimate goal to help you see as much as you can, and give you the tools to help shape your own destiny.

I hope this guide helps as you prepare for our first reading (hopefully of many) together. Some people feel much lighter after a reading - this is normal. But quick word of caution - this feeling, and sometimes Tarot readings, can be addictive: as much as I love meeting with you, we should spread out our readings to no more than once a month / every 6 weeks or so to give time for things to play out before we revisit the cards again. I also will not tell you what you just want to hear - that is not helpful to anyone - but I promise to do so with kindness. Talk to you soon!
