3 Reasons ChatGPT Will Not Replace Tarot Readers

My muggle job is in the marketing world, and we (as have many) have been taken by storm with the latest AI tools including ChatGPT. Given our industry’s focus on creating content, it has caused quite the ruckus. So naturally, I have used it as much as I can to learn more about it, get what I want out of it, and the other day decided to see its chops when it comes to Tarot readings.

I will say that there are aspects of it that make tedious work a lot more doable. It’s easier to start with editing text provided by ChatGPT vs. staring at a blank page.

So as I was heading into an exam, I pulled three cards for myself to see how I would fare. Before going too deep on a reading, I plugged them into ChatGPT to see what it had to say. If you are considering doing the same, here’s a few things to keep in mind:

1 - Tarot Readings are subjective

Similar to what I say to all my clients, readings are not meant to be absolute truth. While I do practice divinatory tarot and use my intuition, we live in a world of free will and choices, where things are not set in stone. Getting a reading from a robot can distill you back some facts based on what the cards represent, and even applications to the context, but that’s all ya get.

2 - Lack of Personalization

I like to shuffle the cards as people ask me their questions. Not only does this give me context of their question, but I am building in my head the tarot spread I am going to use to best respond to their question. At this moment, it doesn’t seem that ChatGPT can do tarot spreads - unless you happen to prompt it with a specific series of questions and the cards you pulled for each.

3 - You Get What You Pay For

When you pay for a reading, I love to think that you are paying the reader for the years of experience they have spent studying the nuances of the cards and applying them to your specific situation. And there’s a lot to be said about conversing with an actual human being, if the pandemic has taught us anything about isolation (yes, even us Virgos). ChatGPT may be a great tool if you have your own deck, are just starting out with learning, and are tight on cash - but don’t expect the level of expertise, deep knowledge and even compassion of a live reader.

That being said, I would love to read for you! Schedule a tarot reading now, and I hope to be reading for you soon :)
